This was the family home of George Hormel, founder of the Hormel Foods Corporation. It was built in 1871 in the Greek Revival style for John Cook, mayor of Austin. The house is now operated as a museum.

This was the family home of George Hormel, founder of the Hormel Foods Corporation. It was originally built for former Austin mayor, John Cook in 1871. It was then purchased by George Hormel and his wife in 1901 and they resided there until 1927.
The structure is designed in the Victorian Greek revival style and the museum's website says this about it:
This 18-room home, features pillars imported from Italy at the front of this stucco, structure. Light fixtures of Quesal, and Tiffany, Leaded, and stained glass can be viewed throughout the home. A buzzer beneath the dinning table once rang to the signal servants. Furniture once owned by the Hormel Family is displayed in the beautiful dinning room. The honeycomb woodwork on the ceiling of the dinning room is one of the few remaining examples of unique workmanship.
Tours of the home are available by appointments. A call to the office (507-433-4243) will assure availability but drop-ins are also welcome if the building is currently staffed. The house is located at 208 4th Ave. NW.
