The Commercial Hotel was originally constructed in 1912 and has seen several expansions from its original block with the last annex constructed in 1952.

The Commercial Hotel is famous for the Blues on Whyte. Blues on Whyte is a Strathcona musical institution which hosts a wide variety of live musical acts, from well known performers to up-and-coming artists. Blues on Whyte has been the breakout performance space for dozens of blues artists and is regarded as Edmonton’s premiere blues venue.
