"Carrasco International Airport (IATA: MVD, ICAO: SUMU) is the largest airport in Uruguay. It is located at the north of Ciudad de la Costa in the Canelones department, close and towards the east side of the capital city of Montevideo, which it serves. Ciudad de la Costa is the name of the city where the airport is located, which extends into eastern Montevideo .The Carrasco International Airport serves to more than 1.500.000 passengers each year, and for 2010 is projected to serve to more than 2.800.000 passengers. In 2003, the government transferred the administration, operation and maintenance of the airport to a private investment group.

This airport presently charges users an Airport Improvement Fee.

The jetways at the airport have glass walls which provide a spacious and modern feel. However, there are only two jetways. It is quite common for a plane to be loaded using passenger buses.

On February 3, 2007 construction began on a new, modern, $134 million dollar terminal that will be located parallel to Runway 06/24. The new terminal, designed by Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly, is going to have a car parking with capacity for 1200 vehicles, and is scheduled to open in early 2009 and will not replace the current terminal. A new $7 million dollar cargo terminal is also being constructed." Wikipedia
