Normally the interior of the building is not open to the public, but we went during an open house event. I don't know if they will have these events annually, but the last open house was when they opened this office in 1999.

Viewing the exterior and the radar shell is possible from public right-of-way.

The Chicago Area National Weather Service Office issues the weather forecasts and hazardous weather forecast for 23 counties of Northeastern Illinois and Northwestern Indiana...

Plus aviation forecasts for the all the airports in that area...

PLUS marine forecasts for all of Lake Michigan 5 nautical miles away from shore and within 5 nautical miles of Illinois and Indiana...

AND, FINALLY, river weather alerts (flood warnings) for those areas of Illinois and Indiana.
