D'r Maatbül - Heerlen Netherlands - Figurative Public Sculpture on Waymarking.com

Originally placed on the 5th of February 1988,
Later moved to its current location and on 15 juni 2005 reissued to the public.

This almost 2 meters tall statue by Sjef Drummen is a tribute to 4 or 5 generations of marketsalesmen that from the start of the market more than 150 years ago, caused a lot of bussiness in the city.
“D’r Maatbuul” (Heerlen Dialect for marktetsalesman) is a creation in bronze in which the showing of the goods is resembled; a vegetable salesman who is loudly shouting and holdig up some cauliflower.


The metal plaque placed at its base shows the following text:

D’r Maatbül
In weer en wink oane mie mokkel
Sjtoan ich hei i brons op dizze zokkel.
Mot greunte verkope oet d’r gaat
Van s’mörges vreug bis s’oaves laat.
Wat ich verkoop is hieël gezonk
Doa weeësje nit va koeëgelronk,
Want greunte mak dich nit diek,
Mé hilt dich kwiek.

Vitamine, iezer en och koeëlhydrate
Zitte i sjlaat, koeël en in tomate.
Och eëpel zint versjrikkelik lekker,
Die it me veer, vief moal de weëk, of dekker.
Me mak ze gekok, als friete of puree,
Och in sjieve gesjneie, mit unne gebroane,
In gouw botter gebakke, mit zoere knien.
Of gebroane haan, doabei nog get ertjes,
Muurkes en werme kompot.
Juj, juj, juj, ich zaan ’t dich: ’t is ee genot.

Dat kin me allenui gelle op dizze maat.
Och blomme, sjtoffe en gesjier vuur in d’r gaat.
Beedloof, blomkuël, eppel en banane,
Appelsiene, citroeëne, viege en agave.
Och hieringe, sjelvusj, paling forelle en karpette,
Mieë wie twintig soate kieës, teldere en versjette.
Sjliepse, ongerbokse, helpe, sjloebe en och sjoon,
Van dit alles bin ich, d’r Maatbül, ’t symbool.
