The original GTR station was built in 1903. GTR became the Canadian National Railway in 1927 and shortly thereafter the station closed. In 1937 it was acquired by the town of Petrolia and opened as a public library - reputably the first public library in Canada to be housed in an old railway station.

The two pictures, one taken in 1903 (thanks to www.petroliaheritage.com for providing it) and the second in October 2005 are a remarkably close match and show that not too much has changed in 102 years.

Year photo was taken: 1903
