The building was designed by architect Alvaro Botelho for the banks owner, of the Bank, the Almeida family (one of the most important families of the São Paulo oligarchy of coffee). The Bank of São Paulo was bought by Banespa bank in 1973 and the property passed to the State. Currently it houses the State Secretary of Youth, Sports and Leisure.
