This Painted Turtle (Chrysemys picta marginata)was in the middle of RT. 63, a fairly busy rural highway with a lot of truck traffic. The only water around was a cattle feed lot lagoon.

I retrieved it and decided to release it at a nearby state recreation/wildlife management area. I don't think this a regular crossing area for egg laying turtles. I suspect this one was just looking for a new home since Painted Turtles do wander. It likely would not have survived long if i hadn't come by just then.
