The obelisco is a project of the sculptor ítalo-Brazilian Galileo Ugo Emendabili, who arrived at Brazil in 1923. The obelisco, made of pure travertino marble, was inaugurated in 9 of July of 1955, one year after the inauguration of Ibirapuera Park.
