This trig pillar was originally placed upon the nearby Iron Age hill fort of Cranbrook Castle, Moretonhampstead in 1949 by Ordnance survey. In 1993 it became redundant and was due for removal but was adopted by Moretonhampstead Parish Council and moved a few hundreds yards down hill to it's current location by the road.
