This Art*O*Mat is located inside a small art gallery in Upper Arlington, Ohio. From talking to the owner it seems that she came upon this Art*O*Mat by some accident
According to the owner, a woman came in one day and told her she needed to get an Art*O*Mat. Not knowing what one was the owner responded to the woman that SHE should get one. The woman left, confused about what she would do with one. A while later the woman visited again and again mentioned Art*O*Mats. The owner of the gallery decided to look into it, and instantly knew she needed to get one. She contacted the Art*O*Mat folks about it, and they told her that the city of Upper Arlington was in talks with them about getting one, but they couldn't settle on an agreement, even though they had been working on it for a few years. The owner got in contact with various Upper Arlington officials, and they were excited that she was interested in acquiring one, and gave her the go ahead. The Art*O*Mat was soon installed.
This Art*O*Mat spends most of its time at the Ursus Art Space but sometimes they will take it to various festivals and celebrations in and around Upper Arlington. This is the only Art*O*Mat in Central Ohio, and only one of three in the entire state. The machine itself is silver metal, with a mirrored front. There are 10 different selections, which are rotated frequently.
This was actually my second visit to this machine, previously I couldn't get any good pics of it. The first time I ended up with a handmade jeweled bookmark, and a collection of rocks collected near Lake Erie. Today Dewgrl made the selections, and we got a porcelain necklace, and an odd little magnet with a border made of unused prosthetic teeth.
