The city center is known as "The Forks", but maybe it should be "The Parks." There is Ivey Park, River Forks Park, Riverside Park, Labatt Park and Harris Park, depending upon which of each fork you are on.

A plaque in Riverside Parks states:
Called ASKUNESIPPI (Antlered River) by the natives and later La Tranch (The Ditch) by the French, The Thames River was renamed in 1793 by Lieutenant-Governor John Graves Simco after its namesake in England. Originating in Perth and Oxford Counties respectively, its north and south branches merge at London eventually to empty into Lake St. Clair. The river has been a focal point for commercial and recreational activities in the communities through which it flows.

Erected by the historic sites committee of The London Public Library Board. June, 1997.
