Norman Borlaug, American agricultural scientist, has been referred to as the father of the "Green Revolution". He received his Nobel Peace prize for his extensive work in agriculture and the introduction of high yield varieties of crops (principally wheat) in developing countries of the world including Mexico, Pakistan and India. Through his efforts he is credited for saving more than a billion people from starvation through increased food supplies in these countries.
