Old Civil War Fort & Museum within larger active (for a few more years) army fort.

The first fort was built here in 1609 (burned down), the current was made by a Engineering Lt. Robert E. Lee in 1831-1834. Originally defended the Chesapeake Bay (it took 2 forts, one on each side of the mouth of the bay, to get sufficient distance of cannon fire to cover the opening), it is now a training, officer, and retirement facility.
Surrounded by a moat with a neat museum full of models and artifacts dating from early fort history to present.
Still an active Military Base, so as you enter let the guard know you intend to visit the Casemate Museum, show ID, & they will give you a day pass.
Look around the installation & enjoy your visit.
