The Occidental Hotel has been a long time landmark hotel in Buffalo, Wyoming. Many famous and infamous people have stayed at the Occidental including Buffalo Bill Cody, Teddy Roosevelt, and General Phil Sheridan. Calamity Jane, and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The current building was built in three phases to 1903 to 1910. The Occidental Hotel saw this heyday from the 1880s through the 1920s. The hotel deteriorated over time until closing in 1886. Starting in 1997 the hotel has been restored to its former glory with many of the original features remaining in place and restored. The hotel now operates as a hotel, restaurant and saloon. The hotel is a contributing property in the Buffalo Main Street Historic District on the National Register.
