As you enter the Riverside Cemetery via the main gate, you will see a wonderful building that was originally built for the purpose of performing funeral services for the community. After the services, the casket would be lowered down to the underground level where it was then moved to the back doors where it was loaded onto a wagon hitched to a horse. It was then wheeled out to the grave site where the final ceremonies were held. I don't know if this building is still used for this purpose, however, the entire cemetery is well worth the visit. It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
