The school was built in 1893 using pink sandstone from the local Burke quarry. The building was designed by William Gray of Lincoln, Nebraska in a Richardsonian Romanesque style, and the building was constructed by A. D. McKay for $23,550.00. The building was used as a school until 1961. The building is now used by the Pioneer Museum.
