A beautiful hike on the leeward side of the island. From Kuhio Highway 56 turn up Kuamo'o Road 580 for about 6 miles. The parking and the trail head are on the right

In Kauai, the mountains and forest are as beautiful as the beach views. This is a fairly easy trail that starts near the Keahua Forestry Arboretum and runs along the Kuilau ridge to the start of the Moalepe Trail. The trail is 2 miles long (one way) and provides some beautiful views of the distant mountains and wonderful overlooks into the valley below. At the end you will have a view of Mt. Wai'ale'ale in the distance, and if you're lucky, you'll be able to see the waterfalls cascading down the sides. There is a geocache about at about the halfway point called, strangely enough "One Mile Tree", just before you reach a picnic table. The rain and humidity are inevitable. Be prepared for the likelihood of rain, and bring water.
