The Newark Earthworks are considered to be one of the largest prehistoric earthworks in the U.S. They cover two square miles, and include several burial mounds, a round enclosure, a square enclosure, and an octagon enclosure. The earthworks were built by the Hopewell Indians over 2,000 years ago.

This map shows the earthworks, including parts that have been destroyed. It is a large metal disk mounted on a concrete base. The upper portion is marked with a "You are here" arrow.
