St. John the Evangelist Cathedral was built in the Dutch Romanesque style and completed in 1916. It is the third church built on the site donated by Jean Mouton in l821, when Lafayette was the town of Vermilionville. Located behind the cathedral is a graveyard dating back to 1820.
