After two years of constant defeat, this site proved to be one of the first of many decisive victories for the American forces. However, this would turn out to be short lived before Canadian forces repelled the American invasion from our soil.

At the site there are a dozen large plaques that detail the events of that day as well as a large memorial to the battle. Parking for about 20 cars as well as buses can be found here as well.

On July 5, 1814, British and US troops met on the plain at Chippewa, Canada. The battle lasted some three hours and resulted in an American victory. It was the first time in the War of 1812 that regular forces of both nations faced each other across an open field, in a major action. The victory showed the entire world that the Army of the young country of America had become a professional military arm, capable of holding its own against the world's best army.
