Maalea Harbor is where we departed for our all day fishing trip. We cruised south out of the harbor with dolphins joining us at the bow of the boat. Eventually we passed Molokini, a popular diving and snorkeling reef. and out into open ocean on the south side of Kahoolawe. We were never more than a couple miles off the coast of Kahoolawe island, but it's far enough out there to feel VERY small in comparison to the Pacific. That's where my Father-in-Law's wife landed the Marlin that is pictured. It took a good two hours to bring it in. The crew on the boat said it was the first Marlin anyone had caught (with them) in about two years. Since it was our last day in Hawaii, my Father-in-Law "tipped" them the fish. They were quite pleased and apparently that could fetch them a fair sum of cash at some fish market elsewhere on the island. This having been my first experience with deep sea fishing, was quite a thrill.
Recommended tackle: All I know is that it was really big stuff!

Recommended fishing methods:
Strapped into the chair with gloves. Strikingly similar to the movie "Jaws" yet less gruesome.
