Historical significance: A plaque at the base of the tree reads, "The National Arborist Association and the International Society of Arboriculture jointly recognized this tree in this bicentennial year (1987) as having lived here at the time of the signing of our constitution."
Another plaque recognizes it as the largest Basswood in the United States with a height of 60-80 feet and a spread of 40-60 feet.
According to Wikipedia, "Also on the grounds, live what is claimed by the cemetery to be the largest American basswood (Tilia Americana) in the world. This is claim is not supported by the National Register of Big Trees, which claims that the largest American Basswood is located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania."
