Kentucky's Bluegrass Landscape in a Japaneese style Stroll Garden. It is the Official Kentucky-Japan Friendship Garden, built on the site of a monastery built in 1898. It is also one of the largest public Japaneese Gardens in the United States.

Yuko-En on the Elkhorn includes decorative lanterns, stone walls and the hills of trees and shrubs familiar to people of both Japan and Kentucky. Loved by most visitors for its serenity and peacefulness, it contains severals gardens or 'rooms' within the nearly six acre site. These areas include arched bridges, water gardens with water falls, a Zen Rock garden, a Children's Zen Garden, a viewing shelter and a spectacular gateway entrance. Visitors are encouraged to feed the pet Japanese koi and goldfish.
Yuko-En on the Elkhorn is located on the north fork of Elkhorn Creek adjacent to Georgetown's historic Cardome Centre. It is in the heart of the Elkhorn Trail corridor. Yuko-En's paths offer visitors a stroll through Kentucky landscape. It contains primarily native plants blended with Japaneese garden principles. This nearly 6 acre garden is the ideal place for environmental, historic or cultural programs and events.
The garden is new and growing. It was created through private and corporate donations as well as in-kind servies. The land was leased, in perpetuity, to the Foundation by the Georgetown City Council. The citizens of Kentucky and Georgetown's sister city, Tahara, Japan have made this community garden a reality.
Phase II plans for Yuko-En on the Elkhorn will be added as donations are given. They include construction of a Bonsai House, the Four Seasons Environmental Education Pavilion, a maple grove and tea garden, a bonsai house, three new foot paths and additional trees, shrubs and flowers. Educational programs for schools, the community and its visitors are being expanded.
