This bronze sculpture by Branko Medenica was commissioned by the Birmingham Fraternal Order of Police to pay tribute to more than 60 law enforcement officers who gave their lives in the line of duty since 1889.
The inspiration for the statue was "Dying Gaul," a Roman copy of Greek sculpture from 230 B. C., now in the Capitoline Museum in Rome. A Birmingham officer modelled for this piece, which was cast in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Located at 801 Richard Arrington, Jr., Boulevard North, Birmingham, Alabama.
