Built between 1913 and 1922, this is an outstanding example of civil engineering. It blended seventy-four miles of roadways, tunnels, viaducts, and overlooks harmoniously into the natural environment. Opened early in the automobile era, the Columbia River Highway was responsible for accelerating the development of the Northwest, while preserving its beauty.

The Historic Columbia River Highway between Troutdale and The Dalles runs alongside the Portland Women's Forum State Scenic Viewpoint in Corbett. Traveling eastbound it is a great beginning for a tour of HCRH.

A tour of the Historic Highway through the spectacular Columbia River Gorge can take a few hours or all day, depending on the time you want to spend enjoying each site along the way. Some segments can be driven--original parts of the road are still narrow and winding--and some have been re-opened for hiking and biking. And some segments no longer exist having been incorporated into I-84.

Instructions for logging waymark: A photograph is required that shows you (or your GPS receiver, if you are waymarking solo) and some feature along the Columbia River Highway.
