Fort Andrews is lies on Peddocks Island in Boston Harbor, Massachusetts. The island belongs to Hull, Massachusetts, and is composed of three "heads", or lobes. The remains of the fort lies on the East Head of the island.

The East Head of the island was purchased by the War Department in 1897, and during the next seven years, the first batteries on the island (Cushing, McCook, Rice, and Bumpus); men were first stationed in 1904. The fort was named after Civil War general Leonard Andrews in 1900, and during WWI, the fort was active and used as a training camp.

The fort was put on caretaker status in 1927 and reactivated in 1940. During WWII it was used for coastal defense and as a POW camp for Italian soldiers. The fort was deactivated in 1946, declared surplus in 1949, and acquired by the Commonwealth in 1970 as a historical and recreational site.

Fort Andrews is now largely in ruins, with many of the brick and wooden buildings being mere frames or walls. Some of these buildings have burned over time, and others are closed due to dangerous conditions or asbestos. Some of the batteries on the island, however, are relatively intact and can be explored. These concrete structures are overgrown and the weaponry has been removed, but are in good enough condition.
