"The beach at Santos, Brazil, is bordered by a garden 5.3 km (3.3 miles) long. It has a total area of 218,800 sq m (2,355,143 sq ft) and the green belt is separated by six canals.
The garden is so gigantic that it has 38 people looking after it all year round. The first part of the garden was completed in 1939 by the Czechoslovakian gardener Carlos Colarquis. In the 1950s, the size of the beachfront avenue was doubled and a decade later the Mayor, Silvio Clemente, asked a garden guru to develop something even more amazing. The final changes to the garden took place in 1972 and 1976.
