Jesse Kuhs' 1993 carving replaced a 1983 Peter Wolf Toth "Whispering Giant", which had deteriorated beyond repair. The base of the statue bears a quote from Osceola: "They cannot capture me except under a white flag. They cannot hold me except in chains."
