http://www.loc.gov/bicentennial/propage/OR/or-5_h_hooley3.htm History In the mid-19th century, free land was promised to those who could reach the end of the Oregon Trail. It wasn't an easy trek from Independence, Mo. (think covered wagons), but they came in droves until 1912. The end of the trail could have been anywhere in the Pacific Northwest, but today its namesake museum is in Oregon City. Features See how Oregon's early settlers lived with a visit to the Interpretive Center's covered-wagon buildings, where you can examine tools, clothing and other personal effects. If it's flour, gunpowder and tobacco you need, take a tour through the Provisioner's Depot. See the pioneering spirit come to life every hour in the Cascade Theater. Stroll through the Heritage Garden or view an exhibit in the Cascade Gallery.
