The plaque reads:
Mott Lake is named in honor of Sergeant John Sidney Mott, Battery "B", 17th Field Artillery, US Army. As Ranger for the Fort Bragg reservation was killed on October 16th, 1937 in the line of duty while protecting the wildlife, peace and safety of the reservation.
Mott Lake is an enduring reminder of a splendid soldier who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to his country.
