It has been build between the 1821 and 1829 on request of Maria Luigia of Austria, one of Napoleon's wifes, to substitute the old "Teatro Ducale" that in the XVII and XVIII century has been used by the most important writers for their operas and concerts. After its inauguration on May 16th, 1829 he got the name of "Teatro Ducale", that changed into the actual "Teatro Regio" only when Italy has been unified under Vittorio Emanuele II.
E' stato costruito tra il 1821 ed il 1829 su richiesta di Maria Luigia of Austria, una delle mogli di Napoleone, per sostituire il vecchio "Teatro Ducale" che nel XVII and XVIII secolo era stato utilizzato dai piu' importanti autori per le loro opere ed i loro concerti.Dopo la sua inaugurazione, il 16 Maggio 1829 ha preso il nome di "Teatro Ducale", che e' diventato "Teatro Regio" solo quando l'Italia e' stata unificata sotto il regno di Vittorio Emanuele II.
