It is believed this cross is in the position of an old preaching cross and could have been here before the church was built about 900 years ago. The pedestal, socket stone and the shaft have been here for hundreds of years but the head and the arms which went missing were replaced in 1893.

The cross stands at 7 feet 10 inches tall and 3 feet across the arms, the cross is set on top of a pedestal, altogether the cross is 13 feet 8 inches above the ground.

In the centre of Meavy Village just outside the church.
