From a plaque by the Moon Tree:
This Loblolly Pine was germinated by the U.S. Forest Service in Gulfport, MS. The seeding was presented to "The Clearing" at Ivy Green by the Alabama Forestry Commission. The Moon Tree seedling, a loblolly pine, was planted in "The Clearing" in October, 1976.

Ivy Green is the historic property where Helen Keller, born blind and deaf, was born and raised.
