Manteca is in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley and used t be a laid back farming community. In the 1990s it started to turn into one of the many Bay Area bedroom communities and over the last ten years has more than doubled its population. And with new development came all the fast food places which makes privately owned Chubby's Diner the last of a dying breed. It was once at the outskirts of town and is now right in the middle of it.
The place opens at 7, come early! After 9, you might have to wait for 20 minutes to get a seat, but it is defintely worth the wait.
Our favorite: Soldier Boy for $4.99: Two eggs, baccon or saussages, hash browns or home fries, pancakes or toast. The varieties are endless.
