The garden contains more than 20,000 plants over three different levels. There are numerous fountains and statues throughout the garden as well.

The gardens were designed by J.H. Cook Architects and Engineers and donated to the City of Calgary by the Devonian Group of Charitable Foundations and Calford Properties.

The public opening took place in September 1977. The fully enclosed botanical garden is maintained by Calgary Parks.
