In 1975, "Virgin Mary of Divine Hearts" was choosen as the capuchin's patron saint in the Northern state of Pernambuco. About 100 years later, amongst rioting,Father Joaquim Afrágola sent the to Naples. The Napoletani started to call it the Virgin Mary of Brazil. It was placed in the Saint Efrén church, and became famous for miracles. In 1924, the image was found again by Brazilian D. Frederico B. Costa. Attempts to bring the image back to Brazil was unsuccessful.
In 1940, Don José Gaspar built the parish.
