Emerald Downs is the home of thoroughbred racing in Washington State. Originally Washington's track was Longacres. This track ran from 1933 to 1992 and was one of the longest continually running race tracks on the West Coast. In the mid 90's the property that the track was on was sold to Boeing Co. and racing ended in Western Washington. However, due to its popularity, Emerald Downs was built south of Longacres and opened for its first race in 1996.

The track is a one-mile dirt oval, with the bid board in the center of the oval. Races run from April through the end of September. Emerald Downs' biggest race is the Longacres Mile Handicap. This event was announced in June 1935 so Longacres founder Joe Gottstein could have a signature one mile race. To attract racers and attention the purse was set at $10,000 and was the largest staked one mile race in the country for the next forty years.

Admission is $5 and includes access to the first five levels of the Grandstand, Paddock and Park. Children 17 & under are admitted FREE.

Parking is free for general parking, $5 for preferred and $10 for valet.

There are free Saturday morning stable tours available by appointment. For reservations call 253-288-7711.
