This church, also known as the Idaho Methodist Episcopal Church and the United Methodist Church is Idaho Springs only remaining example of brick American Gothic Revival architecture. It is one of three remaining buildings in Colorado mining towns that are considered historical by the Rocky Mountain Methodist Conference.

The Methodist congregation, incorporated in 1868 began planning for the church in the late 1870s. Henry Choate served as architect and major construction began in 1880. The building was completed, at a cost of $4000, early in 1881. The congregation occupied the church in Jan. 1881 but it was not formally dedicated until October,1881.

The structure has brick walls a foot thick and large Gothic windows. A bell tower, steeple and Sunday school room were added in 1905. A second story was added to the Sunday school wing in 1965. It operated as a church until 1990. Extensive renovation in 2001 converted it to its present function as the United Center of Idaho Springs, a concert and event center operated as a non profit corporation.
