Nisqually Glacier is one of the most accessible glaciers on Mount Rainier. It can be seen easily from this location, and also from Glacier Vista, about a 1/4 mile walk from the Paradise Visitor Center. The glacier is currently in retreat. This vista shows the rock covered glacier and its not-so-pretty mud and rock covered toe.
Other glaciers on the mountain that can be accessed by hikes of under 5 miles are the Carbon glacier and Emmons Glacier. This glacier can be viewed from the Nisqually entrance to the park, on the drive up to Paradise Lodge and Visitor's Center.
