Villa-Lobos is maybe the most well known classical composer born in South America. He wrote orchestral, chamber, instrumental and vocal works. His pieces were influenced by both Brazilian folk music elements from European classical tradition, as heard in his Bachianas brasileiras ("Brazilian Bach-pieces").
