This overgrown wheal pit is situated in Newleycombe Lake not far from the River Meavy.
The wheel would have been powered by water; a wooden launder was used to take the water from a purpose built leat to the waterwheel. The waterwheel was used to power machinery possibly a stamping mill which crushed the granite so the tin ore could be separated. The whole of this valley has been extensively mined.
