This bridge was constructed 1945-1946 to allow fire fighting vehicals access from Hornsby to Dural. The bridge is known as a Steele bridge after Major General Sir Clive Steele who instructed his people to design a heavy bridge. The design was superseded by the more expensive Bailey Bridge.
The bridge is only accessiable by walking or cycling down the firetrail or by walking the Great North Walk.
