This is an ancient granite built church in the quiet west Dartmoor village of Meavy. The church is dedicated to St Peter. Over the centuries parts the church has been rebuilt several times.
The north pier of the chancel arch, carved with rams' heads, is a relic of an early Norman building, and the greater part of the north wall is almost certainly Norman, but the remainder of the church is mostly early 16th century.
Outside the church is the Meavy Oak which stands on the village green which is reputedly some 800 years old. Nearby is the Royal Oak Pub a former 15th-century church house inn.
