First drawn as a cartoon charactor in 1948, and later given the name Herky the Hawk, he symbolizes athletics at the UI Campus. In the 1950's he came to life at football games as the University of Iowa mascot.
Herky is located inside the Iowa Memorial Union building. Enter the building and take the down staircase. Go straight through the first room and into the hallway beyond. Take the first left, walk down the hall and watch for him in an entry on the right.
WARNING: Students tell us that Herky moves around the building frequently. Two weeks ago he was in front of a different entrance. If you can't find him, go back to the entrance and go up the stairs to the next floor. Turn right and ask at the information desk. They may be able to redirect you to Herky's new location.
