The cathdedral was started in 1913, under Sao Paulo's first archbishop. It was finally finished in 1967. The cathedral is 111 metres long, 46 metres wide, with a capacity of 8,000 people. Under the cathedral is a crypt with every bishop and archbishop of Sao Paulo buried there.
