The Tor House in Carmel, CA is kind of a huge Memorial to the internationally acclaimed poet, Robinson Jeffers. This is where Robinson Jeffers lived and wrote the majority of his work. The house is only open for tours two days a week, but the coordinates should bring you to a small memorial with a statue of a hawk near the entrance.

"Stone-cutters fighting time with marble, you foredefeated
challengers of oblivion...
The poet as well
Builds his monument mockingly;
For man will be blotted out, the blithe earth die, the brave sun
Die blind and blacken to the heart:
Yet stones have stood for a thousand years, and pained thoughts found
The honey of peace in old poems."

Robinson Jeffers (1887-1962) and his wife Una (1884-1950) came to Carmel in 1914.  Over the next decade, they gathered boulders from the nearby rocky shore and built Tor House and the adjacent Hawk Tower.  It was in Tor House that Jeffers wrote all his major poetical work.

The author of more than 15 books, Jeffers was a decidedly Califonia poet, often using scenes and names of nearby landmarks in his works.  He is considered one of the major American poets of the first half of the 20th century.

If you plan on taking a tour of the Tor House and the Hawk Tower, please refer to the following link for times and pricing:  Robinson Jeffers Tor House Foundation.

The coordinates for this Waymark will take you to a small bronze statue of a hawk on a pedestal of boulders, honoring Robinson Jeffers.
