This full scale model of Christopher Columbus' ship the Santa Maria was built in 1992 to commemorate the 500th anniversary his voyage.
This is touted the world's most exact, museum quality replica of the Santa Maria. However, since the Santa Maria no longer exists, all replicas of the ship, including this one, are based on theory, and interpretation. The ship is open for tours. There is a fee to take a tour ($3.50 for adults and $2.00 for children 5-17), however there is no fee to view the ship, or visit the surrounding park.
The Santa Maria is stuck in place as it has no room to sail. The Broad St. bridge to the south, and the rail bridge to the north are both too short to allow it to fit.
