Huddie Ledbetter was born near Mooringsport, LA and moved to Texas when he was five. By the time he was 21 he had learned to play the 12-string guitar and set out to get work as a musician. He spent several years in prison twice. Once for Murder and once for attempted homicide. Both times he was pardoned when the Governor of Texas, and then later, the Governor of Louisiana heard his song.
In 1935, he went north to play his music and he became a sensation. During a Europian tour he became ill from lateral sclerosis and died on December 6, 1949.
