History of Brno-Turany Airport
1958 - official opening of traffic on runway, length 2000 m
1965–1970 - succeeded largest traffic figures in domestic schedule air traffic (due to not existing quality and rapid ground transport)
1967 - installed system of particular approach beacon
1978 - RWY was extended to 2650 m
1986 - opening of the new Passenger Terminal Building
1982–1992 - airport was operated by Ministry of Defence as mixed military/civil airport, the civil traffic was strictly reduced due to military conditions
1989–1992 - reconstruction of RWY and energetic network
1991 - the military air traffic was terminated
1992 - Czech Airports Authority takes airport over Ministry of Defence, issued the permission to operate the international civil transport, the airport opens civil transport after several years of attenuation
1992–1994 - main traffic: touristic charters and training flights
1995 - for the first time in the new history was exceeded 100 thousand passengers per year
1996 - partial reconstruction of passenger terminal, opened new fire-station
1997 - construction of the fence in South part, reconstruction of Land side area and administration objects
1997 - the first International Flying day in modern history of the airport
1997 - the first landing of aircraft Boeing 747 in the history of airport
1999 - installed new energetic control system for RWY
2000 - resumption of scheduled air traffic Prague - Brno after one year lack of scheduled traffic
2001 - new Air Navigation Services building including 18 m Tower
2002 - since July, 1st, Brno Airport has been privately managed by AIRPORT BRNO Ltd., company has obtained a 50 years concession to operate Brno Airport.
2003 - more than 20 touristic destinations operated during the summer season
2004 - since July 1st, has been the airport ownership handed over to Southern Moravia Region. AIRPORT BRNO Ltd. continues to operate the airport as the private operator under lease contract with South Moravia Government.
2005 - regular passenger service to London-Stansted in operation
2006 - regular passenger service to Muenchen in operation, regular domestic service with Prague restored, new terminal opened, number of passengers rose annualy by 25 %
2007 - regular passenger service to Muenchen ceased traffic
